It is impossible to achieve reunification unless the two Koreas can first end the Korean War which remains at a ceasefire and has done so since 1953. That is the prerequisite to make any improvement between the two Koreas. Can Ban Ki-moon help end the Korean War, which has continued for 64 years?

Also, it is impossible is to make North Korea give up nuclear bombs during armistice unless China agrees to hold joint drills with North Korea near the NLL, hopefully not at the same time as the U.S. and South Korea. Looking back at my time in the 1980s there, I feel so lucky I wasn't harmed. The Cuban missile crisis seems to have been a lesser evil when compared to what is happening on the Korean peninsula.

Or should the U.S. stop calling the North part of an axis of evil with Iraq and Iran? This will make the reclusive state extremely afraid of the U.S., worrying that it could be the next target. Russia deserves that status because of its siding with the Syrian dictator. North Korea has been a friend to China which used to supply a nuclear umbrella. The North gaining axis of evil status took the umbrella away. So maybe if China resumes providing that umbrella, it will make North Korea consider giving it up. But all these umbrellas, joint drills and family reunions won't be necessary if the Korean War ended with a full peace treaty 64 years later.
