Yoon Song-yee NCsoft president

Online game developer NCsoft promoted its former vice president Yoon Song-yee to become president, it said Sunday.

She was one of five executives promoted in the reshuffle. Yoon, 40, is the wife of the company’s founder and CEO Kim Taek-jin.

She will take responsibility for mapping out the firm’s globalization strategy and management of NC West Holdings, an affiliate in the United States.

“The reshuffle is aimed at bolstering NCsoft’s global business, innovation and product development,” the company said in a statement.

Market insiders said that Yoon has been credited for her contribution to successful launch of the firm’s strategically important games, including Guild War, in the U.S. and Europe.

Yoon, known as a science prodigy, graduated from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, a Daejeon-based elite university specializing in science and technology, and earned a doctorate degree in artificial intelligence from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

She married Kim in 2007. Yoon joined NCsoft in 2008 as vice president. Prior to joining NCsoft, she worked at McKinsey & Company and SK Telecom.
