The southern port city of Pohang plans to build a Korean version of the Eiffel Tower by 2019.
Pohang, North Gyeongsang Province, held a meeting with 20 experts on Tuesday and decided to erect a steel tower as a city landmark.
It hopes the tower will attract more tourists and revive the city's stagnant economy.
The tower will be 300 meters high, which is similar to the Eiffel Tower (324 meters), Tokyo Tower (333 meters) and Macau Tower (338 meters).
The city is considering several sites -- Yeongildae Beach, Busan Songdo Beach or Pohang Canal, where visitors can enjoy a view of the town and beach.
The estimated budget is 150 billion won ($130 million).
