Popular television MC Kim Gu-ra said Tuesday that he and his wife of 18 years have finalized their divorce.
The 46-year-old comedian said that they tried to work out their differences but decided that they would be best serving as parents to their only son, Kim Dong-hyun.
The comedian has been struggling to pay off debts totaling some 1.8 billion won ($1.63 million), which were accrued by his wife. Kim briefly stopped making television appearances in December after being diagnosed with a panic disorder. But since then, he has starred on various programs including MBC talk show "Radio Star" and tvN’s "Home Cooked Meal."
Kim said his son will live with him until he becomes an adult, adding he will work to pay off his wife’s debt.
