An online community website Ilbe member was arraigned for posting four sexually harassing remarks against Sewol sinking victims, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency Cyber Crime Unit said Sunday.

The man, identified as Chung, 28, was accused of posting the following remarks April 17-20 on the Ilbe site that is full of self-proclaimed right wingers: "All of them must be getting seriously oxygen-deprived. Don't you guys think there would be a gang-rape of some sort?"

Chung reportedly is a Korean education major from a prestigious university, and was living in a small "gosiwon," a facility packed with tiny single-room accommodations.

He said, "I just wanted to be the center of attention," according to police.

Police said they are looking into similar crimes. "Disseminating false information is a serious crime. Given the gravity of this Sewol tragedy and the trauma the victims and families are going through, we will make sure those committing such crimes are held accountable," said an official.

일간베스트 저장소(일베)의 한 회원이 세월호 사고 실종자를 성적으로 모욕하는 글을 수 차례 올렸다가 철창신세를 질 처지에 놓였다.

서울지방경찰청 사이버범죄수사대는 세월호 사고 실종자를 모욕·비하한 글을 작성해 인터넷 게시판에 올린 혐의(모욕 등)로 인터넷 커뮤니티 일간베스트 회원 정모(28)씨를 붙잡아 조사하고 있다고 21일 밝혔다.

경찰에 따르면 정씨는 지난 17일부터 20일까지 총 4차례에 걸쳐 세월호 침몰 사고로 실종된 여학생·여교사를 소재로 한 음란성 게시물을 작성해 일간베스트 게시판에 올린 혐의를 받고 있다.

정씨는 '산소가 희박해져가는 배안에서 집단 'XX'이 있을 거 같지 않냐'는 등 입에 담기 어려울 정도로 심한 성적비하 게시글을 올려 희생자들을 모욕했다.
경찰 조사결과 서울의 한 명문대학교 국어교육과를 졸업하고 고시원에서 생활 중인 정씨는 '관심을 유도하고 주목을 받으려고 이런 게시물을 써서 올렸다'고 진술했다고 경찰은 전했다.

경찰 관계자는 '안타까운 참사에도 구조작업에 혼선을 주고 가족의 마음을 더욱 아프게 하는 허위사실 유포 등 불법행위에 대해 법에 따라 엄정히 대처할 것'이라고 말했다.
