‘Prosecutor sexually harassed reporters‘

By Yi Whan-woo

A senior prosecutor is facing allegations that he sexually harassed female journalists during a get-together on Wednesday with press covering the prosecution.

The 48-year-old prosecutor from the Seoul Southern District Prosecutors’ Office, surnamed Choi, abused two female reporters verbally and physically while they were drinking together, witnesses said. The victims filed a complaint with the prosecution the next day.

According to the reporters, Cho put his hand on a thigh of a female reporter from a daily newspaper. He then groped the journalist’s thigh and face repeatedly, and asked for a date, saying “Let’s go out, go out with me.” The prosecutor harassed another female journalist from a different newspaper after the first victim moved away from him.

Choi put his hand around the shoulders of the second victim and told her that he wanted to visit her place.

The witness saw him trying to grab their hands several times although they told him not to.

One of the victims told him, “You will regret tomorrow how you are behaving towards me.” But the prosecutor was too drunk at that time, the reporters said.

Choi apologized to the victims the next day, but said he was drunk so he doesn’t remember what he did to them. The Supreme Prosecutors’ Office said it transferred Choi to a regional office in a punitive measure.
