The recent suicide of a Minnesota woman who starred in an adult film is being portrayed as a cautionary tale about pornography in the social media age.
According to reports, Alyssa Funke, 19, decided to appear in a film by an adult entertainment company called CastingCouch-X.
But when the scene appeared online, Funke, reportedly an excellent student who wanted to become an anesthesiologist, became the target of negative comments online.
According to KMSP-TV, many of the comments came from students at her former high school. One post referred to her as a “thot,” which is slang for prostitute.
Funke fired back, saying 'The people that envy & hate you the most, stalk you on social media the most,” Daily Mail reported.
But she later bought a gun and killed herself, the reports said, speculating that the comments may have played a role in her actions.
KMSP-TV said the police were still investigating here death but that detectives didn’t believe the postings on social media constituted criminal harassment.
