The government is ready to respond to any outcome in the U.S. presidential election, a presidential official said Tuesday.

The senior official made the remark to reporters with hours to go until U.S. voters head to the polls to pick a successor to President Joe Biden on Tuesday (local time).

"Depending on the results of the U.S. election, the political currents will change greatly, including in the U.S., China, Russia, the European Union, South Korea and Japan, and it will have a large impact on the political situation going forward," the official said.

"Regardless of the outcome in the U.S. presidential election, our government is already ready to respond properly," he said.

The official also spoke to North Korea's troop deployment to Russia, saying the government needs to respond accordingly.

"This war could have had an impact on the U.S. presidential election, and the election outcome could have an impact on the war in Ukraine, as well as on the political situation on the Korean Peninsula," he said. (Yonhap)
