If you are in Daegu for the IAAF World Championships and happen to lose your way at Daegu Stadium, there are numerous volunteers to help you out. There will be some 5,000 helpers ready to give instant assistance, but it’s the color of their shirt that will be your best clue to just whom you should speak to.
Those wearing red shirts can speak English to lend a hand to English-speaking visitors. Some of them can also speak other languages including Portuguese, Spanish and French. The volunteers will have marked on their shirts the languages they can speak.
The organizing committee has recruited 1,700 volunteers, who can speak English and other languages.
For domestic fans, about 2,500 helpers in sky blue shirts will be charged with providing exact information to make the Daegu visit a comfortable and effective one.
The other colors — blue, dark green, light green and yellow — mark volunteers but they are mostly support staff for the athletes and officials.
Those in blue shirts will take aid in the running of the events while the dark green shirts will provide assistance for judges.
Light-green shirted volunteers will assist respective national teams and helpers in yellow will assist in traffic control.
