Concerns rise over increasing mass rallies

대규모 집회로 코로나 확산 우려 증가

Mass demonstrations and rallies are now being allowed with the government's "return to normalcy" plan that has eased social distancing regulations against COVID-19, raising concerns over the possible spread of the coronavirus among participants.
코로나19에 대한 사회적 거리두기 규제를 완화하는 정부의 ‘단계적 일상회복' 정책에 따라 대규모 시위와 집회가 허용된 가운데 시위 참가자들 사이에 코로나 확산에 대한 우려가 높아지고 있다.

On Saturday, thousands of people took to the streets in downtown Seoul in demonstrations organized by more than 20 civic groups. They marched on the streets around the Gwanghwamun area, causing traffic jams in central Seoul.
토요일 수천 명의 시민들이 서울 도심의 거리로 나가 20개 이상의 시민 단체가 조직한 시위에 나섰다. 시민들은 광화문 일대 거리를 행진하자 서울 도심에 교통체증이 발생했다.

Most of the organizers reported to the police that their rallies would have 499 participants ― in line with the government's "Living with COVID-19" plan that allows up to 99 people to participate in a rally and up to 499 when including 400 fully vaccinated people.
주최측 대부분은 집회 참가자가 499명이라고 경찰에 보고했는데, 이는 정부의 '위드코로나' 계획에 따라 최대 99명, 백신 접종을 완료한 400명을 포함할 때는 최대 499명이 시위에 참여할 수 있도록 한 방침과 부합한다.

The police said they checked the demonstrators' vaccine certificates and did limit the numbers to 499 per rally, but could not prevent more people from joining in the middle of street marches.
경찰에 따르면 시위대의 백신 증명서를 확인했고 집회당 참가자 수를 499명으로 제한했지만 거리 행진 도중 더 많은 사람들의 참여를 막을 수는 없었다.

More rallies are planned following the easing of social distancing rules. The National Police Agency said that it had received 8,489 notifications for rallies/ to be held across the country in October ― when mass gatherings were banned ― but had received 5,319 in the five days from Nov. 1 to 5.
한편 사회적 거리두기 규칙 완화에 따라 더 많은 집회가 예정되어 있다. 경찰청에 따르면 대규모 집회가 금지된 10월에는 전국에서 8,489건의 집회 신고가 접수되었지만 11월 1일부터 5일까지 5일 동안 5,319건이 접수되었다.

Those planning to hold demonstrations are obliged to make prior notifications to the police although they don't need to be granted permission, according to relevant laws.
관계 법령에 의하면 시위를 열고자 하는 이들은 경찰에 사전 통지를 할 의무가 있으나 허가를 받을 필요는 없다.
