Ulaanbaatar is reportedly cited as one of the most probable venues for the upcoming summit between U.S. President Donald Trump and his North Korean counterpart Kim Jong-un.
According to multiple overseas reports, the Mongolian capital city is highly likely to become the historic venue for the first-ever summit between Washington and Pyongyang.
CNN reported, citing U.S. government sources, that the upcoming Trump-Kim summit will take place in Ulaanbaatar sometime between late May and early June, even if the two countries have not officially announced the summit venue and timing.
President Moon only noted on Wednesday that the U.S. and North Korea are in careful discussions to decide on details on the summit timeline, venue and agenda. The South Korean government has so far been of the position the venue should be decided by the two countries, and did not actively engage in the discussion.
Overseas media, however, reported North Korea is persuading the U.S. to accept Ulaanbaatar as the summit venue.
The Mongolian government has expressed its willingness to host the historic summit in the country's capital city.
The upcoming Washington-Pyongyang summit is expected to be the third in a series of Kim's meetings with state leaders this year. Last month, Kim met with Chinese President Xi Jinping, and plans to visit the truce village of Panmunjom later this month for a summit with President Moon Jae-in.
