Two human teeth were found in a roll of "gimbap" sold at a convenience store. They were found in a roll of cooked rice wrapped with dried seaweed a 45-year-man bought at around 7:30 a.m. last Wednesday at a CU convenience store in Incheon.
The man reportedly found them while chewing the roll. CU, one of the nation's biggest convenience store chains, has launched an investigation. The gimbap had an HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) food safety mark on its wrapper.
The gimbap was manufactured by an outsourced food maker, whose identity remains unknown. A CU spokesman said the manufacturer questioned and checked the teeth of all people who worked the day when the spoiled gimbap was made, but found nothing wrong with them.
"I can't give you detailed information because an investigation is underway," the spokesman said. "The manufacturer has the primary responsibility for the problem and related investigation. We are waiting for the results."
CU hasn't ruled out the possibility that an outsider inserted the teeth with malicious intent.
