North Korea has allowed a U.S.-based travel agency to sell a tourism package for those who want to participate in next year's Pyongyang Marathon, Radio Free Asia (RFA) reported Thursday.
Uri Tours has got official approval from North Korea to sell the package, including a non-stop Shanghai-Pyongyang flight, for the 2015 Pyongyang Marathon on April 11, according to the RFA. North Korea's national airline, Air Koryo, will offer the service.
The travel agency said any foreigners can apply for the marathon regardless of their nationalities, adding that there will not be any minders during the race.
The seven-day travel package costs some 2.6 million won ($2,400). Those who purchase the package can experience an "exclusive" tour of the Kim Il Sung Stadium before the race, and they can also travel around the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) and enjoy a Pyongyang tour, along with the marathon.
The Pyongyang marathon was first held in April of this year.
According to Beijing-based Koryo Tours, some 200 runners from around the world participated in the 2014 Pyongyang Marathon, including people from China, Russia, Germany and Ukraine.
There are three options for runners: the full marathon, a half-marathon or a 10km fun run.
