Comedian Yoo Jae-suk has donated 50 million won ($44,000) to the underprivileged.
개그맨 유재석이 소외계층에게 5000만원(4만4000달러)을 기부했다.
Yoo handed over the cash to the nongovernmental organization, G-Foundation, July 12. The money is expected to be used to provide menstrual pads for women in need and to support families that have been hit hard by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
유재석은 7월 12일 비정부기구인 지파운데이션에 기부했다. 그가 기부한 후원금은 취약계층 여성들을 위해 여성용품을 지원하고 종식되지 않는 코로나바이러스 감염증으로 큰 타격을 입은 가정을 후원하는 데에 사용될 것으로 예상된다.
This is not the first time that the comedian has offered a helping hand through G-Foundation, a Christian foundation for international development. In January, he contributed 50 million won to the organization so as to help low-income teenage girls buy menstrual products.
유재석이 기독교국제개발협력NGO 지파운데이션을 통해 도움의 손길을 내인 것은 이번이 처음이 아니다. 지난 1월, 그는 지파운데이션을 통해 5000만원을 기부해 저소득층 여성청소년들이 여성용품을 구매할 수 있도록 했다.
"We are thankful to Yoo for continuing his charitable contributions streak," G-Foundation's CEO Park Chung-kwan said. "Yoo's donation will be a big help for those who are currently going through tough times due to the global health crisis."
박충관 지파운데이션 대표는 "(소외계층 여성청소년을 위해)연속적으로 기부해 주시는 유재석 씨에게 감사드린다"다며 "유재석 씨의 기부는 세계적인 코로나바이러스 사태로 인해 힘든 시간을 보내고 있는 이들에게 큰 도움이 될 것"이라고 말했다.
Yoo, one of the most popular comedians in Korea, made his TV debut in 1991 on KBS's "Comedian Festival." Since then, he has appeared in a series of hit shows, such as SBS's "Running Man" and MBC's "Hangout with Yoo." He recently inked a contract with a new management company ― Antenna Music ― which was established by his close friend, Yoo Hee-yeol.
한국에서 가장 인기 있는 개그맨 중 한 명인 유재석은 1991년 KBS "대학개그제"로 데뷔해 TV에 출연했다. 이후 그는 SBS "런닝맨", MBC "놀면 뭐하니?" 등 다수 인기 프로그램에도 출연하고 있다. 한편 유재석은 최근 그의 친한 동료인 유희열이 대표로 있는 새로운 연예기획사 안테나뮤직과 계약을 체결했다.
Yoo is also one of the most charitable celebrities; last year, he donated 100 million won to the Samsung Life Public Welfare Foundation. He also gave 100 million won to the Hope Bridge Korea Disaster Relief Association to help people combat the pandemic.
유재석은 기부활동을 가장 활발히 하는 연예인 중 한 명으로, 작년 삼성생명공익재단에 1억원을 기부했다. 또한 그는 희망브리지 전국재해구호협회를 통해 1억원을 기부하며, 코로나19로 힘든 이들에 도움을 준 바 있다.
