A middle school in North Chungcheong Province has been forced to move 17 chickens from its campus, because the school failed to inform the authorities about the birds.
According to the provincial education office, inspectors found a 14-square-meter chicken run at the back of the auditorium.
The school had set up the run in April to provide healthy food for its students who play sport.
Under the stock-raising law, people and organizations must inform the provincial office if they want to keep livestock in an area of more than 10 square meters, but the school did not tell the authorities.
An education office official said it was fully understood that the school was trying to do the right thing for its students.
"However, it is obviously a violation of the related law, and such a facility can cause noise and bad smells," the official said.
The school moved chickens the day after the inspection.
