Court allows protesters to march to 100 meters from presidential office

Anti-President protesters will be able to march to within 100 meters of the presidential office on Saturday, the closest ever since citizens first took to Seoul's streets six weeks ago demanding President Park Geun-hye step down to take responsibility for a corruption scandal involving her longtime friend and aides.

The Seoul Administrative Court allowed protesters to come within the shouting distance of 100 meters from Cheong Wa Dae between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. in a ruling made Friday night. Last week, the court drew a limit line 200 meters from the presidential office.

While police have banned gatherings and marches at places even 1 kilometer from Cheong Wa Dae, the court has unprecedentedly ruled in favor of protesters for five consecutive weeks, last week allowing them to march to a point 200 meters from the presidential office.
