Average age for first sexual intercourse is 15 years

Teens with sexual experience had their first intercourse at an average age of just over 15 years.

A Ministry of Gender Equality and Family report of a 2012 survey of 464 students about their first sexual encounter reveals an average age of 15.1 years.

Among them, 7.6 percent had their first sexual experience in elementary school, 11.8 percent in grade 7, 17.4 percent in grade 8, and 20.1 percent in grade 9.

Sex partners were fellow students (60.2 percent) and adults aged over 20 (14.1 percent).

Some students had sex for monetary gains and other transactions (21.7 percent).

The report shows 42.8 of male students and 41.1 percent of females used birth control during sex.

"Younger teens are now active in sexual activities, but there isn't enough sex education being provided for these adolescents," says Rep. In Jae-geun of the opposition Democratic Party.

"To prevent unwanted pregnancies, there has to be more programs on sex education."

성관계 경험이 있는 청소년들이 성관계를 처음 경험하는 나이는 고교 1년생 시절인 평균 15.1세로 나타났다.

국회 여성가족위원회 소속 민주당 인재근 의원이 25일 여성가족부의 '2012년 청소년유해환경 접촉 종합실태조사' 자료를 제출받아 분석한 결과, 성관계 경험이 있는 조사대상 청소년 464명의 성관계 평균 시작 연령은 15.1세였다.

이 중 7.6%는 초등학교 때 처음 성관계를 가졌다고 답했고 중학교 때 처음 성관계를 가졌다는 응답도 절반(중1 11.8%, 중2 17.4%, 중3 20.1%)에 육박했다.

성관계 상대방은 이성친구(60.2%)가 가장 많았으며 20세 이상의 성인은 14.1%를 차지했다.

특히 금품이나 편의 제공 대가로 조건부 성관계를 가진 청소년은 21.7%에 달했다.

인 의원은 질병관리본부의 '2012년 전국청소년건강행태 조사' 자료를 인용, 성경험 청소년 중 남자 42.8%, 여자 41.1%만이 성관계 시 피임을 하는 것으로 나타났다고 밝혔다.

인 의원은 '청소년의 성문화가 급변해 성관계를 갖는 연령층이 낮아지고 그 수가 늘어나고 있지만 올바른 성교육 기회가 부족하다'며 '원치 않는 임신을 막기 위한 피임 교육이 강화돼야 한다'고 말했다.
