Singer Ivy is branching out to the musical stage.
The 27-year-old will appear as Lois Lane, one of the main characters of the famous musical ``Kiss Me, Kate,'' with other top musical actors in the business, according to her agency De Chocolate E&TF Monday.
The agency added that Ivy's strong vocals and versatility helped her win the role, which she will rotate with musical actress Oh Jin-young.
``After watching Ivy performing over the years as a singer, we wanted to work with her some time in her career. We think this role will be perfect for her to show off her passion and talents on the musical stage. We are all looking forward to her work as a musical actress,'' the production company for the musical said through a press release.
Along with Ivy, top musical stars, including Nam Kyung-joo and Choi Jung-won, will be immersed in the delightful tale of couples, love, relationships and a musical.
``Kiss Me Kate'' is structured as a play within a play, where the interior play is a musical version of William Shakespeare's ``The Taming of the Shrew.'' It was the first Tony Award for Best Musical in 1949 and was staged in Korea for the first time in 2001.
Ivy, who made her debut in 2005, surprised both fans and the music industry with her powerful vocals and superb dance moves. With songs like ``Sonata of Temptation,'' it seemed she was moving her way up to become one of the fiercest female singers in the industry, but left the spotlight in 2007 due to conflicts that arose when her former boyfriend threatened to release sex videos.
She returned late last year with the new funky song ``Touch Me,'' but failed to captivate fans.
``Kiss Me Kate'' will be staged from July 9 to August 14 at the National Theater of Korea. Tickets will be on sale from May 13.
