Lee Jae-hoon, 59, former vice minister of knowledge economy, was named president of Korea Polytechnic University, Thursday.
He will officially begin his four-year term Friday.
The university was established in 1994 with support from the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy, formerly known as the Ministry of Knowledge Economy, to nurture engineers, boost academic-industrial cooperation, and strengthen the nation's technological competitiveness.
Lee graduated from Seoul National University in 1978 after studying economics. He passed the civil service exam the previous year. He then built his bureaucratic career at the ministry. Lee served as vice minister from 2007 to 2009.
