South Korea will host the 5th APEC Education Ministerial Meeting (AEMM) next year, the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology said Monday.
Held once every four years, it is one of the most important international meetings focused on education, gathering education ministers and experts from around the world to discuss the development of human resources and educational infrastructure.
The announcement was made during the APEC Human Resources Development Working Group meeting at Washington which ran from March 7 through 11.
``The AEMM is one of the biggest education events to be held in Korea. By hosting such a meeting, Korea is expected to become a leader in vitalizing educational cooperation among APEC member countries and is also another step to being a vital member in the international scene,’’ the ministry said in a press release.
The event will invite ministers and some 300 experts from 21 countries, including the United States, Canada, Japan, Chile, Peru, Thailand and Vietnam.
Korea is the second Asian country to hold the event after Singapore in 2000. The last meeting was held in 2008, in Peru.
