Soongsil University, a private school in Seoul, has withdrawn successful admission notifications for more than 10,000 applicants, causing a huge stir.
The university mistakenly announced Friday for several hours online that all applicants were successful candidates among those applying for the school’s rolling admissions.
A total of 13,728 applied for the school, but only 883 were actually selected. Students, who initially thought they had been successful, but later realized they hadn’t, complained to the university and some are said to be taking legal action against the school.
The university blamed a student recruitment agency for the mistake, saying it will make an official apology to the candidates.
숭실대, '1만4천명' 전원 오류 합격 사태
서울 소재 숭실대학교가 10,000명이 넘은 지원자들에게 보낸 합격 통지를 철회하는 사태가 벌어져 학생과 학부모들에게 대 혼란을 야기했다.
이 대학은 금요일 수시모집에 지원한 학생들 중 합격자를 발표했다. 그러나 이는 실수로 수시간에 걸쳐 합격 불합격을 인터넷 상에서 조회한 전 지원자에 합격통보를 한 것이다.
총 883명을 선발하는 수시 1차 전형에서 13,728명이 지원했다. 그러나 합격을 확인한 학생들은 곧 잘못된 것임을 알고 학교에 항의를 했으며 일부는 대학의 실수에 대해 법적 조치를 취할 것으로 알려졌다.
대학은 학생들에게 공식적인 사과를 할 것이라며 이 같은 실수가 학생 선발 대행업체 때문에 일어났다고 말했다.
