Jeju offers spots for once-in-a-lifetime photo

Shooting once-in-a-lifetime photos from enviable locations ― mainly for social media ― has become an increasingly popular fad in recent years, regardless of age.

남들이 부러워하는 장소에서 '인생 사진'을 찍어 소셜미디어에 올리는 것은 최근 몇 년 동안 남녀노소 가리지 않는 유행이 되었다.

Taking the trend into account, the Korea Tourism Organization's (KTO) Jeju branch has come up with 40 "instagrammable" spots on the resort island that will ensure gorgeous pictures even if you are not a photography whiz.

한국관광공사 제주지사는 이러한 트렌드를 고려하여, 전문사진가가 아니더라도 멋진 사진을 찍을 수 있는 40개의 '인스타그램 명소'를 지정했다.

Plus, on the occasion of the 2019 Spring Travel Week from April 27 to May 12, the branch plans to hold two photo events that it believes will give visitors a great photography tour.

게다가 4월 27일부터 5월 12일까지 열리는 '2019년 봄 여행 주간' 동안, 한국관광공사 제주지사는 최고의 사진 여행을 선사할 두 가지 사진 이벤트를 개최한다.

Here are some destinations for vacation-photography experiences around the southern island of Jeju.

제주도 여행사진을 찍을 수 있는 명소들은 다음과 같다.

When you arrive at Jeju International Airport, Dodu Rainbow Coastal Road can be the first stop of your photography tour because it is close to the airport.

제주국제공항에 도착하면, 공항에서 가까운 '도두 무지개 해안도로'가 사진여행의 첫 번째 목적지다.

The rainbow-colored barriers running along the seashore offer a scenic view mixing with the ocean, so it is an up-and-coming photo spot for social network media freaks.

해안을 따라 수 놓인 무지갯빛 방호벽은 바다와 어우러진 멋진 경치를 제공해 소셜미디어 이용자들에게 새롭게 뜨는 명소다.

The length of the barriers is 15 to 20 minutes on foot, providing an ideal place for a stroll.

방호벽은 도보로 15~20분 길이로, 산책하기에 이상적인 장소를 제공한다.

Sinchang is known as having the strongest winds on Jeju Island. For that reason, a wind power plant was established in 2007, resulting in huge windmills built in the ocean that present beautiful and romantic scenery.

신창은 제주도에서 바람이 가장 강하게 부는 지역으로 유명하다. 이러한 이유로 2007년 풍력발전소가 설치되었으며, 바닷가에 조성된 이 거대한 풍차들은 아름답고 낭만적인 풍경을 선사한다.

Near the plant, there is a park along with a footpath featuring a sea-crossing bridge and an observation deck that often appears in commercials and TV dramas, which means it can be a great photo spot.

풍력발전소 근처에는 바다를 건너는 다리가 있는 산책로와 공원이 있고, 광고나 TV 드라마에 자주 등장하는 전망대가 있어 훌륭한 사진 촬영지를 제공한다.

Also, Sinchang Windmill Coastal Road on the northwest side of Jeju Island is one of the best venues to see the sunset, drawing many tourists.

게다가 제주도 북서쪽에 있는 신창의 '풍차 해안도로'는 일몰을 구경할 수 있는 최고의 장소로 많은 관광객의 발길을 유도한다.

Bagumji Oreum is 1 kilometer west of Mount Sanbang in the southwest corner of the island.
바굼지오름은 섬의 남서쪽 모퉁이에 있는 산방산에서 서쪽으로 1km 떨어져 있다.

Resembling a bat spreading its wings, the volcanic cone only stands 158 meters tall, but the height is not really indicative of how hard it is to climb. The track to the pinnacle via many staircases is quite steep, leaving climbers gasping for air.

박쥐가 날개를 펴고 있는 형상을 닮은 이 화구의 높이는 158m에 불과하지만, 올라가기가 쉽지만은 않다. 정상을 향하는 수많은 계단은 꽤 가파르며 등산객들이 숨을 헐떡이게 만든다.

However, when making it to the top, your pain is rewarded with jaw-dropping panoramic views of Mounts Sanbang and Songak and Hyeongje (Brother) Island.

그러나 정상에 오르는 순간, 입이 쩍 벌어지게 하는 송악산, 산방산, 형제섬이 한눈에 보이는 경치가 고통을 보상해준다.

Dubbed as Jeju's own Grand Canyon, Yongmeori Beach, the oldest volcanic area on the island, shows off wide rocks stacked up on one another along the seashore cliffs which create majestic scenery by the sea.

제주도의 그랜드캐년으로 불리는, 가장 오래된 화산지대인 '용머리해안'은 웅장한 풍경을 자아내는 해안절벽을 따라 서로 겹겹이 쌓인 큰 바위들을 자랑한다.

Along the road down to the seashore, there is the Hamel Castaway Memorial in remembrance of Hendrik Hamel, a Dutch sailor who drifted to this place in 1653. Just off to the right of the beach is a soft and dark sandy beach. You can meet the women sea-divers of Jeju, called "haenyeo," who sell sea cucumbers, and stroll on the road that runs along the seashore.

해변으로 내려가는 길을 따라가면, 1653년 이곳으로 표류한 네덜란드 선원 헨드릭 하멜을 추모하는 '하멜 표류 기념비'가 있다. 해변의 바로 오른쪽에는 부드러운 갈색빛 모래사장이 있다. 그곳에서 해삼을 파는 제주도의 '해녀'들을 만날 수 있고 바닷가를 따라 펼쳐진 길을 거닐 수도 있다.

The lesser-known Eongdeongmul Valley is a hidden gem in the Jungmun Tourist Complex, where visitors can stroll through the yellow canola field. It is located east of the Lotte Hotel Jeju. It is on Course No. 8 of the Jeju Olle Trail.

잘 알려지지 않은 '엉덩물계곡'은 제주 중문관광단지의 숨겨진 보석으로, 방문객들은 노란 유채꽃밭을 거닐 수 있다. 엉덩물계곡은 롯데호텔제주의 동쪽에 있으며 제주올레길 8번 코스다.

There are a slew of spots to see canola flowers, but Gasiri Village might be the best place on the island. The yellow waves of flowers dying vast grassland, and windmills standing between the flowers make for a pastoral view.

유채꽃을 구경할 만한 곳이 정말 많지만, '가시리마을'이 제주도에서 가장 좋은 곳일지 모른다. 드넓은 초원을 물들이는 꽃들의 노란 물결과 꽃밭 사이에 서 있는 풍차는 목가적인 풍경을 만들어 준다.

Noksan-ro, across the village boasts the rare combination of cherry blossom and canola flower, assuring visitors of colorful pictures.

가시리마을 건너편인 녹산로에는 벚꽃과 유채꽃이 어우러진 진귀한 조합을 선보이며, 방문객들에게 유채색의 그림 같은 배경을 약속한다.

During the travel week, the Jeju KTO branch will run a program in which tourists can visit these photo spots with a professional photographer who will teach them basic photography skills and take photos of them.

한국관광공사 제주지사는 봄 여행주간 동안 '제주에서 봄빛 담아가기'라는 주제로 지역 특화 프로그램을 운영하며, 참가자들은 사진작가와 함께 '제주 봄 사진 명소'를 돌아보며 사진 촬영 노하우를 배우게 된다.

Those who are interested in the program can apply at travelweek.visitkorea.or.kr until May 9. The application will be on a first come, first served basis.
