The number of minors who drink alcohol has gone down to 10 percent, while four out of every 10 of such underage drinkers are binge drinkers.
술을 마시는 미성년자의 비율은 10%로 줄어든 반면 음주 청소년 10명 중 4명은 폭음을 하는 것으로 드러났다.
A recent government study finds that they drink about five to six times a week, and consume more than one bottle of soju at a time. Soju is a popular Korean liquor with about 15 to 20 percent alcohol content that comes in 360-milliliter green bottles.
최근 정부 조사에 따르면 음주를 하는 미성년자들은 일주일에 5~6회 정도 술을 마시며 한번에 소주 한 병 이상을 마신다. 소주는 360밀리리터 녹색 병에 든 알코올 도수가 약 15~20%에 해당하는 한국의 대중적인 술이다.
According to the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency's (KDCA) national health survey statistics summary on youth drinking, Monday, the number of underage drinkers has declined over the past 10 years.
월요일 질병관리청(KDCA)의 청소년 음주 국민건강조사 요약 통계집을 보면 지난 10년간 미성년자 음주자는 감소했다.
The KDCA drafted the report based on the youth health survey of around 60,000 middle and high school students across the country, which the agency has conducted every year since 2005.
질병관리청은 2005년부터 매년 전국 중·고등학생 6만여 명을 대상으로 실시한 청소년 건강 설문조사를 바탕으로 보고서 초안을 작성했다.
The report classified the male respondents who drink more than five shots of soju ― with each shot being about 50 to 70 milliliters ― as heavy drinkers, while three shots were the standard for female respondents. Overall, 42.5 percent of male and 49.8 percent of female underage drinker respondents were such cases.
보고서는 소주를 5잔 이상(각 50~70밀리리터) 이상 마시는 남성 응답자를 위험 음주자(과음자)로 분류했고, 여성 응답자는 3잔을 기준으로 삼았다. 전체적으로 남성의 42.5%, 여성의 49.8%가 위험 음주자였다.
Binge drinkers tend to drink more than a bottle of soju once they start drinking, the report said. The average alcohol consumption of male underage drinker respondents was 10.4 shots, or a bottle and a half of soju, and 7.4 shots, or one bottle of soju for female participants.
위험 음주자들은 일단 술을 마시기 시작하면 소주 한 병 이상을 마시는 경향이 있다고 보고서는 전했다. 음주를 하는 남성 미성년 응답자의 평균 음주량은 소주 10.4잔(1병 반), 여성 참가자의 평균 음주량은 소주 7.4잔(1병)이었다.
Also, underage binge drinkers have a high success rate of purchasing alcohol without presenting their IDs. The success rate of alcohol purchase attempts of both male and female underage respondents was above 85 percent.
또한 청소년 위험 음주자가 신분증 제시 없이 술 구매에 성공하는 비율도 높다. 남성과 여성 미성년 응답자 모두 술 구매 시도 성공률이 85% 이상이었다.
