The New Zealand embassy has appointed Dongwon Group Vice Chairman Park In-gu as the new honorary consul for the country _ resident in Busan _ for three years from Dec. 1.
Park will have jurisdiction throughout South Gyeongsang Province and is expected to play a role in pursuing the New Zealand government's foreign relations and trade objectives, including protecting the rights and security of New Zealand citizens abroad in the region, the embassy said.
To celebrate the appointment, New Zealand Ambassador Clare Fearnley, with Korea's Deputy Foreign Minister Yoon Soon-Gu, hosted a dinner at the ambassador's residence in Seoul on Nov. 29, drawing together senior participants from government and business.
Fearnley said Park has been a "great friend of New Zealand over many years, particularly supporting our trade relations with Korea."
"We are confident he will hugely contribute to enhancing New Zealand's foreign relations with the region."
Park has previously worked at Korea's Ministry of Trade and Industry and has been Dongwon Group vice chairman since 2006.
