A seminar on Korean language education was held last month in St. Petersburg, Russia, home to the world's first overseas Korean language education program 120 years ago.
The event was part of the Next Generation Leaders Visit Korea Program, an annual program launched by the Korea Foundation (KF) to give potential global leaders an opportunity to learn about the historical, cultural, economic, and socio-political aspects of Korea through an extended tour.
Those attending included Consul-General at the Korean Embassy Kim Se-ung; First Vice President of Rostov State University of Economics Vladimir Dzhukha; Dean of the Faculty of Linguistics and Journalism at Rostov State University of Economics Tatiana Yevsyukova; President of the Russian Association of Korean Language Professors Elena Kondratieva; and Founder of School 1086 E. M. Nelly.
At the seminar at Rostov State University of Economics, 14 scholars, including Professor Zhanna Mukabenova of Kalmyk State University, spoke on the status of Korean language education and the latest teaching methods in the field, while Professor Lee Su-mi of Sungkyunkwan University gave a lecture on teaching Korean grammar and expressions.
The seminar also presented a special performance of the traditional Korean drum dance Sogochum by Geumgangsan, an arts troupe of the Rostov Association of Korean-Russians.
Through such diverse programs, the seminar provided the participants with a useful opportunity to build a network among Korean language education specialists in Russia.
