A court held a skier partially responsible for the injuries she sustained from being hit by a snowboarder on a slope. A 36-year-old woman, identified as Lee, filed a compensation suit against a man, Cho, after she suffered a broken leg when he crashed into her. A Seoul court ruled that Lee was also responsible.
``Lee had to be more observant to prevent the collision but failed to see Cho, and this made the accident more serious. She is 50 percent responsible for the injury,'' it said, ordering Cho to pay 84 million won in compensation.
In a similar case, an Incheon court also put 30 percent responsibility on a woman, Lee, who filed a suit against a 23-year-old man, Park, after being injured by Park at a ski resort.
Lee stopped half way down a ski slope, and Park, who was skiing fast, failed to avoid a collision that caused Lee to need 16-weeks of treatment. ``If Lee wanted to stop mid way, she should have looked around carefully to avoid a possible collision,'' the court said. Park was ordered to pay 48 million won, 70 percent of the total compensation claimed.
In a separate case where a beginner skier was hit by another skier on an intermediate course, a court recognized the beginner was responsible for choosing the wrong slope. A 34-year-old ski beginner, Yu, filed a damages suit against a snowboarder, 36-year-old Kim, who crashed into Yu and caused him a knee injury.
The Daejeon High Court ruled both had the same responsibility. ``Kim, who was coming behind Yu, should have watched skiers in front of him and selected a safe direction and speed. But Yu also had to select a course suitable for his skill,'' it said.
