All the Korean members of K-pop boy group ONF are set to begin their compulsory military service in December, according to their management company WM Entertainment, Wednesday.
지난 수요일 K-pop 보이 그룹 온앤오프의 소속사 WM 엔터테인먼트는 온앤오프의 모든 한국인 멤버들이 12월부터 군복무를 시작한다고 전했다.
"Except for Japanese member U, the five Koreans members ― Hyojin, E-Tion, J-Us, Wyatt and MK ― will join the Army in December," WM said in a statement.
WM 엔터테인먼트는 입장문에서 "일본인 멤버 유를 제외한 효진, 이션, 제이어스, 와이엇, MK 다섯 멤버가 12월 동반 입대한다"고 밝혔다.
WM added that it would not disclose the place and time of their enlistment due to COVID-19 concerns.
WM 엔터테인먼트는 코로나19 확산 방지를 위해 입대 장소 및 시간은 공개하지 않을 것이라 덧붙였다.
In the K-pop scene, it is rare to see bandmates joining the military at the same time.
K-pop 가요계에서 팀 멤버들이 동시에 입대를 하는 것은 흔하지 않다.
In most cases, when one member starts his duty, the other members continue their careers in a bid to stay in the limelight and, once he returns, they take turns.
대부분의 경우 한 멤버가 군 복무를 시작하면 다른 멤버들은 사람들의 이목 속에 있기 위해 활동을 진행하고, 전역한 멤버가 돌아오면 남은 멤버들이 교대로 입대한다.
ONF, however, made a different choice.
그러나 온앤오프는 다른 선택을 내렸다.
"After careful consideration, ONF members made this rare decision to minimize the group's hiatus," WM explained.
WM 엔터테인먼트는 "그룹 활동 공백을 최소화하고자 하는 멤버들 의견에 따라 신중히 결정한 것"이라고 설명했다.
"We believe we can perform together on the stage for a longer time, if we join the Army together," J-US said. "Let's make precious memories together until our enlistment next month."
온앤오프 멤버 제이어스는 "온앤오프 6명이 다 같이 함께 하고 싶은 마음, 더 오래 함께 노래하고 싶은 마음으로 함께 입대하기로 했다"면서 "입대하는 날까지 아직 한 달 남짓한 시간이 있기에 그때까지 슬퍼하기 보다 즐거운 추억들을 많이 만들자"라고 전했다.
