With the main opposition People Power Party (PPP) having officially launched its presidential election committee, the party is now focused on when the wife of its presidential candidate, Yoon Suk-yeol, will join her husband's campaign.
주요 야당 국민의힘이 공식적으로 선거대책위원회를 출범시키면서 이제 당은 윤석열 대통령 후보의 부인이 캠페인에 언제 동참할 것인지에 대해 관심을 모으고 있다.
It has been over a month since Yoon become a candidate, Nov. 5, and less than 100 days are left before the election. But Yoon's wife, Kim Kun-hee, has yet to make a public appearance in sharp contrast to Kim Hye-gyeong, the wife of Lee Jae-myung, the presidential candidate of the ruling Democratic Party of Korea (DPK) who has frequently accompanied the former Gyeonggi Province governor, and even personally appealed to voters.
11월 5일 윤 씨가 후보가 된 지는 한 달이 넘었고 선거까지 100일도 채 남아있지 않다. 그러나 윤 후보의 부인 김건희 씨는 아직 공개석상에 나타나지 않아 후보와 자주 동행하고 심지어 투표자들에게 개인적인 호소도 했던 전 경기도지사 여당 더불어민주당의 이재명 대통령 후보의 부인 김혜경 씨와는 극명한 대비를 이루고 있다.
Although Yoon said she will make an appearance at the appropriate time, the DPK continues to take aim at Kim due to allegations of illicit behavior surrounding her. Kim has been accused of playing a role in a stock manipulation case involving Deutsch Motors, a BMW car dealer in Korea, and academic plagiarism among others. In addition, she is also haunted by her mother's conviction in a series of fraud cases.
윤 후보는 부인이 적절한 시점에 나타날 것이라고 했지만 더불어민주당은 계속 불법적 행위에 대한 의혹 때문에 김 씨를 겨낭하고 있다. 김씨는 한국의 BMW 자동차 딜러인 도이치자동차와 관련된 주식 조작 사건과 학술 표절 등의 혐의를 받고 있다. 또한 그녀는 일련의 사기 사건에서 어머니의 유죄 판결에 시달리고 있다.
"It does not make sense why Kim is at the center of attention when she is not a celebrity," Rep. Kweon Seong-dong, the PPP secretary-general, said in a radio interview, Wednesday, adding voters cast their ballots based on candidates, not their spouses.
권성동 국민의힘 사무총장은 수요일 라디오 인터뷰에서 "김 위원장이 연예인도 아닌데 왜 주목 받는지 이해가 되지 않는다"며 유권자들은 배우자가 아닌 후보에 기준을 두고 투표한다고 덧붙여 말했다.
"She will make a public appearance at the right time."
"김 씨는 딱 맞는 시점에 공식석상에 나타날 것이다."
