Workers prepare to open Seoul City's public ice-skating rink |
By Lee Yeon-woo
The ice skating rink at Seoul Plaza will be back for the first time in almost three years, set to wow winter sports lovers who have long been awaiting the reopening of the landmark rink after it was closed abruptly in January 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to the Seoul Metropolitan Government, Monday, the rink will operate from Dec. 21 to Feb. 12, 2023, and it will be open from 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. during weekdays and from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. on weekends and national holidays.
However, when the fine dust level surpasses a certain point, the rink will be closed to protect public health. The city said it will announce such cases in advance on its website.
The fee for using the rink is 1,000 won ($0.77), which is the same amount as the price set for its first opening in 2004. Safety supplies such as helmets and knee pads are free to borrow at the spot, and personal lockers will also be provided after paying another 1,000 won.
The city promised to double the number of safety workers on the site and deploy medical workers to ensure public safety. It will also follow government measures on COVID-19 in operating the rink.
Tickets to enter the rink can be also purchased online. The details of the reservations will be updated later on seoulskate.co.kr, its official website.
