An "Abortion drone" will fly to Poland on Saturday to deliver 5 kilograms of pregnancy-terminating pills.
Women on Waves, a Netherlands-based non-profit organization, initiated the project. The pills are illegal in Poland.
Dr. Rebecca Gomperts, founder and director of the organization, told the Telegraph: "I think it's extremely important because, within Europe, there's so much inequality and difference in how women's rights are being respected."
The pills have been approved by the World Health Organization, but Gomperts is unsure how the Polish government will react to the drone delivering them.
According to the Telegraph report, Women on Waves hopes to bring awareness about the lack of safe access to abortion in Poland, and women's rights to access certified abortion-pills.
The organization seems to have found a way around potentially violating the airspace laws of the pro-life nation.
It claims the drone is not considered a commercial aircraft because it weighs less than 5 kilograms. And as it will not be flying in controlled airspace, no authorization is required under Polish law.
"There are no regulations or laws that prevent us from doing this or any that say it would be illegal," said Gomperts.
"It's the first time we're doing something like this, so we don't know what the government is going to do. We're just going to see what happens."
