The death toll from India's latest mass alcohol poisoning continues to rise.
According to Dhananjay Kulkarni, police deputy commissioner in Mumbai, 90 people have died after drinking homemade liquor, and more than 40 are in critical conditions.
The death toll was expected to rise above 100, the commissioner said.
Five people have been arrested for distributing and selling the moonshine in a slum in the suburb of Malad West, north of the city. Eight police officers also have been suspended for alleged negligence for allowing the sales.
Methanol, a toxic form of alcohol not meant for drinking, is often used in India as a cheap way to increase the alcohol content of illegal liquor.
It is rare for such incidents in a major city like Mumbai, with most cases in villages.
The latest incident is the worst in Mumbai since 2004, when about 100 people died.
