Another music professor from Seoul National University (SNU) is in the spotlight for the wrong reasons. Park Mi-hae is accused of having violated the school’s policy on the provision of private lessons, only a week after the school decided to fire one of its music professors over violence toward students.

The professor had been giving personal lessons to a high school student for the past two years according to SNU Sunday.

The school prohibits its professors from teaching students outside of the school as it may provoke criticism and affect students’ chances on university entrance exams.

In exceptional cases professors must receive permission from the school president.

Park, however, did not receive approval and has been registered as a lecturer at Seoul Arts High School, receiving 20,000 won ($17) per hour from the school.

``I was teaching a good friend’s child and the student was not preparing for university. I will accept the consequences for not getting permission from the president,’’ Park was quoted as saying by the school.

Some lecturers at arts schools pointed out that ordinary teachers are paid around 150,000 won and that it didn’t make sense that a music professor from one of the most prestigious universities received such a small amount.

SNU is planning to further investigate the case.
