Sungshin Women’s University said Tuesday it has decided not to increase its tuition fees this year, to help relieve the financial burden on students and parents.
Sungshin was also the first school to freeze tuition in 2009 and expects its latest initiative to influence other schools.
``We are in a situation where we should raise tuition, but we’ve made our decision after considering the difficulties facing ordinary citizens amid rising consumer prices, the spread of animal diseases and other unstable economic factors. It’s in line with the government’s policies to keep a lid on expenses,’’ said Shim Hwa-jin, president of the school.
The university’s decision came after its seven member tuition-setting committee proposed that it raise fees by less than 3.4 percent.’
