Organizers of the G20 Summit scheduled for November have set up a security control center at the ASEM tower in southern Seoul Friday.
Yu Jeong-kwon, head of security of the Presidential Committee for the G20 Summit, said, “Since the meeting is set to be the largest summit held yet in Seoul, it is necessary to prevent any possibilities of terror or protest. We are using state-of-the-art technologies.”
The center is planning simulation drills on traffic, presidential guards and taking other preventive measures.
The committee has also disclosed several details of the summit. A total of 8,000 people, including heads of state, delegations, press and others, will visit Seoul between Nov. 10 and 12. Heads of the G20 member states, five non-G 20 states - Spain, Vietnam, Malawi, Ethiopia and Singapore and representatives of the United Nations, International Monetary Fund, World Bank, World Trade Organization, OECD, International Labor Union and Financial Stability Board will attend the summit at ASEM Hall in COEX, southern Seoul.
The welcome reception will be held at the National Museum on Nov. 11.
The event will be a “green convention,” the organizers said. “President Lee Myung-bak took the Los Angeles Olympics as an example. The organizers then used university dormitories to board the athletes and later resold the blankets and linen used. He aims to minimize costs,” an official from the committee said.
