The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced Tuesday that four options for the city's new slogan will be put to a vote from Wednesday through Jan. 31. The winning slogan will replace the current "I.Seoul.U."
The four candidates are: "Seoul for you," "Amazing Seoul," "Seoul, my soul" and "Make it happen, Seoul."
After embarking on the project to develop a new slogan in August, the city government held a public contest soliciting for new ideas and conducted a survey on the initial candidates among 2,000 individuals both in Korea and abroad.
"Seoul for you," which is supposed to mean that the city government has everything its residents need, embodies its governing philosophy, "accompanying the vulnerable," explained the city government.
"Amazing Seoul" symbolizes the city as the nation's traditional and cultural heart with plenty of entertainment facilities, while "Seoul, my soul" describes it as a soul-filled city. "Make it happen, Seoul" highlights the dynamic and vibrant atmosphere of the city. The authorities noted that the fourth candidate drew larger support from overseas than from survey respondents in Korea.
People regardless of nationality or place of residence are invited to cast their vote on the city website at mvoting.seoul.go.kr/73843 or at english.seoul.go.kr where foreign language translation services are available.
People can also cast their votes offline at subway stations, Seoul Plaza, or in the lobby of City Hall.
The results of the survey will be announced in February and the candidate garnering the most votes is expected to replace the current I.Seoul.U.
I.Seoul.U has been the capital's slogan for about eight years since being selected through a public contest in 2015 under former Mayor Park Won-soon. In June, the city government under current Mayor Oh Se-hoon said it decided to change the slogan as the current one seems less appealing and competitive compared to those of other global cities.
