Police said Thursday that they had taken a man into custody for allegedly orchestrating the filming and distributing of videos of 100 naked women who were showering at water parks.
Officers at Yongin Dongbu Police Station in Gyeonggi Province said they apprehended the man, surnamed Kang, 33, at an expressway rest stop in Jangseong, South Jeolla Province.
They earlier apprehended a woman, Choi, 28, who allegedly filmed the shower scenes at three water parks and an outdoor swimming pool in Seoul, and Gyeonggi and Gangwon provinces last year. She was put behind bars after a court issued an arrest warrant.
Choi told police that she met Kang through an online chatting room and he offered her money in exchange for hidden camera videos of naked women. She said Kang gave her up to 600,000 won per video.
"He admitted asking Choi to make the videos, but claims they were for his personal use, not distribution, and that he dumped the external hard disk drives containing the files about four months ago," an officer said.
When media reported the case, Kang and Choi discussed fleeing overseas through mobile messengers, he said.
According to police, the video files Choi had were 185 minutes long in total. The footage was released online two weeks ago, triggering fears among women about security in public places, especially communal shower rooms.
