President Park Geun-hye plans to hold her first news conference as head of state Monday at Cheong Wa Dae, her senior press secretary Lee Jung-hyun said Friday.
It will be broadcast live nationwide.
"President Park is scheduled to have a press conference at 10 a.m. Monday. Prime Minister Chung Hong-won, Cabinet members and senior secretaries will be there as well," Lee said.
"She will first outline her policy plans for the New Year before taking questions from reporters."
Park had a nationally-televised address to the nation last year at Cheong Wa Dae to ask for the parliamentary approval of her government reorganization bill. But the Monday event will be her first official news conference including the question-and-answer session. Reporters including foreign correspondents are invited.
The media event seems to be aimed at quelling the criticism that Park does not put forth efforts to reach out to others.
The main opposition Democratic Party criticized Park for being unwilling to communicate, citing her failure to hold a news conference as one example.
