President-elect Yoon Suk-yeol named former Prime Minister Han Duck-soo as the first premier of his administration.
윤석열 대통령 당선인이 전 국무총리 한덕수를 새 행정부의 국무총리로 임명했다.
During a press conference, Sunday, Yoon named the 72-year-old as the prime minister, saying he "served a number of key government posts, thanks to his expertise."
일요일 기자회견 중 윤 당선인은 "전문성을 인정받아 국정의 핵심 보직을 두루 역임하신 분"아라고 말하며 이 72세의 후보자를 국무총리로 임명했다.
"The new government must pave the way for an economic rebound amid difficulties both inside and outside of the country and thoroughly prepare for an era in which the economy and national security together emerge as key tasks the government must handle," Yoon told reporters.
윤 당선인은 기자들에게 "새 정부는 대내외적 엄중한 환경 속에서 우리 경제의 재도약을 위한 기틀을 닦아야 하고 경제와 안보가 하나가 된 ‘경제 안보 시대'를 철저히 대비해 나아가야 한다"라고 말했다.
"Han is a qualified nominee who can successfully coordinate the Cabinet and address pending national tasks based on his rich experience."
"한덕수 후보자는 풍부한 경험을 바탕으로 내각을 총괄하고 조정하면서 국정과제를 수행해나갈 적임자다."
Han said Korea faces grave economic and geopolitical challenges and the country has to make adjustments in its strategies to address those tasks. He picked diplomacy based on national interests, fiscal prudence, balance of international payments and improvements in productivity as some of the main national tasks.
한덕수 후보자는 한국이 경제와 지정학적으로 엄중한 도전에 직면하고 있으며 이러한 과제를 해결하기 위한 전략에 조정이 필요하다고 말했다. 한 후보자는 주요 국정 과제로 국익을 기반으로 한 외교, 재정 건전성, 국제수지 흑자 유지와 생산성 향상을 꼽았다.
"As the prime minister nominee, I will make efforts for discussions and communication to set up policies that can be realized," Han said.
한 후보자는 "국무총리로서 치열한 토론과 소통을 통해서 실현될 수 있는 그런 정책들을 만드는 데 노력을 해 나가도록 하겠다"라고 말했다.
"For this, national unity and cooperation between the conservative and liberal sides will be key elements for success."
"이를 위해서 보수와 진보 사이의 협치와 통합도 굉장히 중요한 정책 성공의 요소가 될 것이다."
Han was widely expected to become the first prime minister of the Yoon government due to his bipartisan and extensive experience in key government posts, both in the areas of economy and diplomacy.
경제와 외교 분야에서 핵심 보직을 맡은 초당적이고 풍부한 경험 때문에 한 후보자는 윤 행정부의 초대 국무총리가 될 것으로 널리 예상되었다.
