Samsung SDI presented its latest battery technologies and products for commercial vehicles at the international exhibition, IAA Transportation Hannover 2022, in Germany, the company said Tuesday.
Samsung SDI introduced high-nickel prismatic battery cells made with its proprietary silicon-carbon nanocomposite technology, which improves energy intensity, charging speed and durability.
Its scalable module and pack technologies are designed to offer customized services for individual commercial vehicle models.
"Samsung SDI has been striving to provide the company's own battery solution specialized for commercial vehicles based on differentiated technology and top quality," Michael Son, Samsung SDI executive vice president of automotive and ESS business, said. "This exhibition will be an opportunity to examine Samsung SDI's technological competitiveness, quality and even vision to lead the new era of EVs."
The commercial vehicle industry is regarded as a highly prospective market by battery producers. Electric trucks usually need about eight to 13 times more batteries than electric passenger vehicles.
The electric commercial vehicle market is expected to grow over 31 percent annually reaching 3.14 million units by 2030 from 353,000 units in 2022, according to market tracker Markets and Markets.
