Civic group members will stage a candlelit protest on Jeju Island from this week in protest of the ongoing construction of the naval base on the nation’s largest resort island.
“We will make clear through our act to let people gain awareness of the injustice in this construction plan, and will make sure the protest goes an all over the island,” said a member of the emergency commission consisted of the Jeju city residents, Monday.
The commission announced at a press conference that the candlelit protest will begin from Thursday in front of the city hall, and will continue until the Navy decides to faithfully and fully revise its plan.
The Navy started building the base despite opposition from a number of people, including Jeju Governor Woo Keun-min.
