Girls' Generation has become irrelevant, KARA is in flux, and 2NE1's cool meter was already dipping when Park Bom was hit with drug-smuggling accusations.
That leaves the sexy four-member group Girl's Day as the top female act in an otherwise nondescript K-pop scene.
Girl's Day's new song, "Darling," instantly swept to top spot on the country's nine major download sites, including Melon, Mnet, Olle Music and Naver Music, following its release on Monday.
"Darling" is from the album, "Summer Party," which is filled with sugary tunes written for slick dance moves. Consisting of Sojin, Minah, Yura and Hyeri, Girl's Day debuted in 2010.
"We are thankful that our fans are calling us champions, but we still feel like the challengers," Sojin said at a news conference on Sunday. "We believe we are still improving and can get better.''
