The Bong Joon-ho science fiction thriller "Snowpiercer" will open in 250 theaters in the United States this week, according to the film's distributor CJ E&M Wednesday.The movie features an international cast including Chris Evans, Tilda Swinton, Ed Harris and Song Kang-ho and depicts a class struggle between the passengers of Snowpiercer, a train that travels a frozen, future Earth nearly lifeless after a failed global-warming experiment.Snowpiercer was one of the highest-grossing films in Korea last year and was shown in countries such as France, China, Japan, Taiwan and Italy before reaching U.S. shores."The movie will then be shown in major U.S. theaters as it adopted a roll-out method of gradually increasing the number of screening theaters based on sales records," CJ E&M said.
'설국열차', 미국서 상영관 250개로 확대
미국에서 개봉한 봉준호 감독의 '설국열차'가 오는 4일부터 250개 상영관에서 확대 상영된다고 이 영화의 배급사 CJ E&M이 2일 밝혔다.
앞서 '설국열차'는 지난달 27일 미국내 8개관에서 개봉했다.
CJ E&M은 ''설국열차'가 뉴욕타임스 등 유력 언론으로부터 연일 호평을 받으면서 개봉 일주일 만에 큰 폭으로 상영관이 확대됐다'면서 ''설국열차'는 관객 반응에 따라 스크린 수를 늘려가는 롤아웃 방식으로 미국 주요 도시에서 상영될 것'이라고 설명했다.
'설국열차'에 대해 USA투데이는 '초현대적 액션 스릴러와 지적인 예술 영화의 본질을 완벽하게 조합해 낸 작품', LA타임스는 '개인적 서사와 거대 서사가 환상의 조합을 이룬 영화', 뉴욕타임스는 '여름 극장가 관객들을 충족시킬 수 있는 영화'라고 호평했다.
또 '버라이어티' '할리우드 리포터' '롤링스톤' 등 영화·연예 전문지들도 일제히 '설국열차'에 대한 긍정적인 리뷰를 게재했다고 CJ E&M은 밝혔다. (연합뉴스)
