Sung Il-hwan, former Air Force chief of staff, has been tapped as the new CEO of the Korea Airports Corp. (KAC).
The corporation said Wednesday that it decided to appoint Sung to head the company at a general meeting of shareholders the previous day.
Sung will be inaugurated next week after Cheong Wa Dae endorses his appointment. He will succeed Kim Seok-ki, who quit the post last December to be a candidate in general election in a Gyeongju constituency, North Gyeongsang Province, as a member of the ruling Saenuri Party.
Sung was born in Changnyeong, South Gyeongsang Province in 1954. He served as Air Force Chief of Staff from 2012 to 2015. Sung also served as principal of the Korea Air Force Academy and head of the Air Force Education and Training Command.
As an expert in Air Force operations and education and training, he is expected to cooperate with the Air Force as eight out of the 14 airports under the KAC are jointly operated by the military, according to the corporation. The KAC manages 14 airports nationwide except for Incheon International Airport.
