Cheongju police detained a man, 20, for allegedly attempting to sell his infant daughter for 600,000 won (about $590) to a buyer he found on the Internet. The 30-year-old woman who offered to buy the 7-month-old baby is also being questioned.
According to police, the man, who is a university student, struggled to support the child financially and started to look for takers on the Internet. The woman left a comment on one his postings and received the child about a week later.
The man's postings were also monitored by a child protection agency which alerted the police.
The police did not comment on whether the child's mother, who has been cohabiting with the man, was involved in the crime.
