Park Ji-sung |
Park Ji-sung will return to his former team PSV Eindhoven in the Netherlands for a year-long loan from Queens Park Rangers (QPR), a local newspaper reported Tuesday.
According to Voetbal International, PSV initially considered buying the 32-year-old but changed it to a loan deal because of Park's "high salary."
The salary Park will receive for the deal remains unknown. But according to Yonhap News Agency, PSV Eindhoven will pay 1 million euros (1.47 billion won) and QPR will make up for another 500 million won.
The deal still needs some time to be completed because his work permit has not been issued yet.
PSV head coach and Park's former teammate Phillip Cocu expressed his joy over Park's return, saying the former Manchester United will bring some new energy to the team.
"He is a versatile player who can be used both as the left and right winger. He also could be used as a midfielder," Cocu said.
PSV has won the Eredivisie, the Netherlands' highest league, 21 times. Park joined the club in January 2003 after his impressive performance at the 2002 World Cup, where Korea advanced to the semifinals.
Park spent two years at PSV between 2003-05, making 92 appearances and scoring 17 goals for the club until he moved to Manchester United in 2005.
After returning to his old team after eight years, Park is poised to have a great season with PSV, which finished second in the Eredivisie last season.
