South Korea has joined the global WeThe15 campaign for the first time marking the nation's 42nd Day of People with Disabilities on Wednesday.
WeThe15 Campaign is a global human rights movement to end discrimination against people with disabilities who represent 15% of the global population.
Celebrating the nation's inaugural participation in the global campaign, fifteen famous landmarks across the nation including the N Seoul Tower, Lotte World Tower and Busan's Gwangan Bridge were lit up purple, the international color for disability.
The lighting ceremony took place from 6 p.m. on Tuesday to 6 a.m. on Thursday.
The Korean Paralympic Committee, the organization that arranged the event for South Korea, is continuing with a relay event on social media to spread the campaign message.
More than 120 landmarks around the world including New York City's Empire State Building, Tokyo's Skytree Tower, and Paris City Hall were lit up in purple for the campaign last year.
