Girls' Generation tops Japanese chart

소녀시대, 베스트앨범 日오리콘 차트 1위

While Girls' Generation no longer dominates the Korean pop scene, the nine photogenic women continue to be a massive draw in Japan.

The group's greatest hits collection, simply named "The Best,'' rose to No. 1 on Japan's Oricon weekly album chart following its release last Wednesday. It is the third Girls' Generation album to top the Oricon chart, following "Girls' Generation" (2011) and "Love & Peace" (2013).

"The Best" includes some of the group's biggest hits including "Genie," "Gee" and "Mr. Taxi." Girls' Generation ― Taeyeon, Jessica, Sunny, Tiffany, Hyoyeon, Yuri, Sooyoung, Yoona and Seohyun ― has been one of the biggest acts in K-pop since debuting in 2007.

걸그룹 소녀시대가 일본에서 발매한 첫 베스트 앨범 '더 베스트'가 오리콘 주간 앨범 차트 1위를 차지했다.

소속사 SM엔터테인먼트는 지난 23일 현지에서 발매된 '더 베스트'가 오리콘 일간 앨범 차트 1위에 이어 주간 차트에서도 1위를 차지했다고 29일 밝혔다.

이에 따라 소녀시대는 정규 1집 '걸스 제너레이션'(2011)과 정규 3집 '러브&피스'(2013)에 이어 세 번째로 오리콘 주간 앨범 차트 1위를 기록했다. 이는 일본을 제외한 아시아 여성그룹 사상 최다 1위 기록이라고 SM엔터테인먼트는 설명했다.

오리콘은 이날 '소녀시대, 세 작품째 1위 '여자12악방' 넘어 신기록'이라는 제목의 홈페이지 기사에서 '일본 그룹을 제외하고 아시아 여성 그룹으로는 중국의 '여자12악방'의 두 작품 기록을 넘어 앨범 1위 획득수 신기록을 수립했다'고 보도했다.

이번 앨범에는 '지니', '지', '미스터 택시' 등 히트곡을 비롯해 일본어 버전 '미스터미스터', 발라드 신곡 '인디스트럭터블' 등 모두 18곡이 수록됐다.

한편 소녀시대는 첫 베스트 앨범 발매를 기념해 일본 주요 지역에서 대형 이미지 및 전광판 광고를 진행중이다. (연합뉴스)
