The webcomic “My Daughter is a Zombie” has been brought to the small screen as a new animated comedy series of the same title on EBS, according to Naver Webtoon, Friday.

Set in Korea following a zombie apocalypse, the story revolves around Jeong-hwan, a father who harbors a dark secret ― his only daughter Su-ah is the last zombie left on earth. He does his best to “humanize” her to remain above suspicion, but exactly how long can the family keep up the act?

The webcomic by Lee Yun-chang, who is also known for “Time in Joseon” and “Ozland,” was published weekly from August 2018 to June 2020. It was subsequently translated and released in North America, Japan, Spain, Thailand and Taiwan, surpassing 500 million views worldwide, according to Naver Webtoon.

The webtoon received a prize at the 2019 Korea Content Awards for its masterful depiction of the topics of loneliness, discrimination and family love in the comedy drama genre.

Consisting of 26 episodes, the animated series will be broadcast every Sunday. The first two episodes aired on April 3. Reruns will be made available on Naver Series On.

“I'm excited to hear that my cherished work, 'My Daughter is a Zombie,' has been reborn as an animated series,” Lee, the creator of the cartoon, said in a statement. “Thank you to everyone who worked to give life to the series and I hope everyone can enjoy it.”
