The National Museum of Modern and Contemporary, Korea (MMCA) has released a new publication called "Korean Art 1900-2020" that sheds light on the country's modern and present-day art scene spanning 120 years.
국립현대미술관이 한국 근ㆍ현대미술 120년사를 조망하는 새 출판물 '한국미술 1900-2020'을 발간했다.
As part of an ongoing research project into Korea's art history, the museum previously published "MMCA Collection 300," a visual anthology of 300 selected works from its holdings, in Korean in 2019 and in English earlier this year.
국립현대미술관은 현재진행형인 한국 미술사 연구 프로젝트의 일환으로 2019년부터 미술관의 대표 소장품 300점을 수록한 선집 '국립현대미술관 소장품 300'의 국문판과 영문판을 출간한 바 있다.
To present diverse perspectives and interpretations of the country's century-old art history, "Korean Art 1900-2020" invited contributions from 34 experts, including the museum's curators and researchers, and featured around 400 archived images of artworks in their original colors.
한국 근ㆍ현대미술에 대한 다양한 관점과 해석을 보여주기 위해 '한국미술 1900-2020'은 국립현대미술관 큐레이터와 연구자를 포함해 전문가 34명이 참여했고 400여 점의 원색 도판이 함께 실렸다.
The first section of the book focuses on the early 20th century marked by Japan's annexation of Korea in 1910, up to national liberation in 1945 ― a period marked by clashes between tradition and modernization which left an impact on Korean art circles as well as general visual culture.
책의 서두는 일본과의 합병으로 얼룩진 1910년부터 광복을 맞이한 1945년까지 20세기 전반을 다룬다. 이 시기는 한국 미술계를 비롯한 일반적인 시각 문화에 영향을 준 전통과 근대화의 영향이 특징적으로 드러난다.
The subsequent sections shed light on the representative art movements and features of each era.
후속 내용에서는 각 시대의 대표적인 예술적 움직임과 특징을 조명한다.
These include the transformation of North Korean art during 1945-67, Dansaekhwa ("monochrome painting") and other experimental movements of the 1970s, Minjung art ("People's Art") provoked by a series of socio-political, pro-democracy protests in the 1980s, feminist art movement and video and media art after the 1990s.
여기에는 광복 이후 북한 예술의 변화, 1970년대 대두된 단색화 운동과 실험미술, 80년대 사회정치적, 민주화 운동에 따른 민중미술운동을 비롯해 페미니즘미술, 90년대 이후 비디오 및 미디어아트가 포함된다.
The book's English-language edition is scheduled for publication in the first half of next year.
'한국미술 1900-2020' 영문판은 2022년 상반기에 출간될 예정이다.
It will be distributed across major international art institutions and libraries, and will be available for purchase from the museum's online store.
'한국미술 1900-2020'은 주요 국제 미술관과 및 도서관에 배포되며 미술관의 온라인 스토어에서 구입이 가능하다.
