A restaurant in Itaewon, Seoul, withdrew its selective ban on black customers after the policy touched off flurry of hate emails, negative press, and even threats of boycotting the restaurant.
JR Pub, a popular place for beer and chicken wings, had previously posted a pair of handwritten signs that read "We apologize, but due to Ebola Virus, we are not accepting Africans at the moment."
It was unclear how the restaurant planned to judge whether a person was African, although eye tests seemed likelier than airport-style ID screening.
A photo of the signs made rounds on social media over the weekend, triggering angry reactions from Internet users, including some who threatened to boycott the restaurant.
JR Pub has since posted a new sign where it apologized over the ill-advised no-African policy.
"I wanted to write you a letter to apologize. What I did last night was horribly inappropriate, disrespectful, wildly selfish. I apologize for the article that is published about JR Pub.
"I had no intention of being racist and I sincerely apologize. The sign that was put up in JR Pub was very inappropriate and disrespectful and no excuses.
"The sign has left a deep wound between the bond of our customers and the restaurant and I apologize again to everyone who was offended and hurt. We will do our best to build back our relationship."
